How to get nicely rid of a neighbour in 4 steps …

When I moved in here, I was full og good intentions … I really wanted to avoid the mistakes I did in Mumbai by not meeting the neighbours which I thought hated me but turned out to be nice when my cat forced me to talk to them. And eventually I did not go and say hi.

Well I did speak with the old woman of the ground floor (I had forgotten my key) but she was least interested, she only wanted to know how she could get in touch with my favorite Indian (they have common connections in the Supreme Court).

I also met my direct neighbour after two months of cohabitation. It was when a carnage had just happened: the stray cat which roams around in the building had smashed my trash bag and it was spread everywhere. I was cleaning (and not waiting for the caretaker of the building to clean as anyone else would have probably done in the building, after what I can see on my neighbours’ landings) when he came to “make me a suggestion”: “To avoid dirtying your landing, and mine, it would be better if you left the trash bag in the staircase. This way, the trash would not be lying in front of our flats when we have guests coming.”

Obviously I could help asking whether it would look better if guests had to jump over the trash in the staircase to reach our floor?? And to tell him that his “suggestion” was not solving the problem.

The following day I bought a very nice sorrel basket with a cover that I leave outside and if any trash of his ever lands on my landing, he will hear about me!!

But let us go back to the main topic … The day I received my stuff from Mumbai, I was quietly unpacking when I heard a conversation. I heard so well, it sounded like they were in my apartment! And they would not stop talking! I started thinking that they had nerve discussing like that right outside my door! And then, horror, I realized that they were in my neighbour’s flat!! The poor wooden door that separates us is of no use. Hell and damnation …

On top of that I was thinking of buying a sound system and I was not so comfortable inviting him to the movies, with the sound but not the images! However the home theatre proved useful to cover the chuckles of his chicks and his bollywood music (one or twice I stroke back with jubilation – my sound level is unbeatable!)…

First night out in Delhi...

Another first: first night out 'as a couple' for my favorite Indian and me. After five years...

Small flashback. Sunday, in the swimming pool of Neemrana fort palace:
- You are French (in French in the text)?
- Yes.
- You dance the tango?
- Euh
- You must come to our tangi meetings, twice a week!

Here is how my mother and I have met M., a very beautiful Indian lady in her sixties. Single, a daughter settled in the United States, managing a textile factory in Delhi, holidaying on the French riviera...

M. invites me the very next Tuesday for a small party on her terrace. I take on me and give up on an early night in my very comfy bed (and God knows how tired I am!): I have to go out and meet people. My favorite Indian supports me in this effort and agrees to come with me.

We arrive on a superb terrace in the fashionable district of Defence Colony. The guests arrive progressively. We get a 'feel young feeling' which is nice as our thirties are becoming dangerously close: the age average is very close to 60. My Indian has some success: There are three men for 20 women! Women who laugh when saying that the man of their life is their driver!!
Discussions of Indian desperate housewives: On such political woman. On the happiness of having a dog. On the Sunday mass with is celebrated in the church of the Vatican embassy. On the children who live in Singapore, in Australia. On the total fun of new forties (the sixties). On the zumba. On NGOs.
The whole thing with a music background: a guest has taken her guitar out and everyone sings in a good spirit!!

My Indian and I have ended up behind the bar. A place well indicated to break the ice and to get over the incongruity of the situation. And the ladies are enjoying their drinks!

A unique experience (one more). A dive in the middle of a society which I had no idea existed. And a lot of fun for my first 'outing' in Delhi!!

The sofa-bed story

A story that could happen anywhere. But that happened to me here ...

So here I was, looking for a sofa-bed. Something a little bit good looking. Not like that:

Rather like this:

In short, I found a guy who were selling these sofa-beds in Mumbai. For a decent price. And free shipping to Delhi. Done: on February 13th I placed my order, paid online. They were to ship it three days later. 5 days later… (click on Lire ci-dessous to read more)
